In a career as a successful entertainment executive, Billy Hall has made his mark on the industry by always looking to the future, with an eye on the media’s next innovations, trends, and technological advances. He has been instrumental in developing the successful programming strategies for a variety of networks including Lifetime, TNT, and tbs as well as launching such networks as FX, Fox Movie Channel, Fox Family Channel and BounceTV. Billy was the key Programming Executive for the launch of Time Warner’s digital platform initiative, “TV Everywhere” for TNT, tbs and truTV.
As a content creator, Billy has served as Executive Producer for documentaries such as “Building The Perfect Beast -Young Frankenstein 25th Anniversary Special”, “Making The Connection”, “Cult Culture: The Poseidon Adventure”, “Altman On His Own Terms”; reality series “Forever Jones”; sitcom “My Crazy Roommate”. He also served as the Network Executive for “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne”, “Tyler Perry’s Meet The Browns”, “Are We There Yet?” for tbs. Billy produced the live 30th Anniversary cast-and-crew reunion of the film “MASH” at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 2000. At the event, Billy presented director Robert Atman with the prestigious Legacy Award in honor of his contributions to Twentieth Century Fox.
Throughout his career, Billy has never taken his success for granted, and has dedicated himself as a leader to giving back and paying forward. While at Fox, Billy was a founding mentor in the corporate program to connect Los Angeles youth to executives across the company. Billy and his mentee were featured in an article in the Los Angeles Times. During the aftermath of the Rodney King verdict riots, Billy was a part of a contingent that visited the First AME Church in Los Angeles to hold a town meeting for the program “Under Scrutiny with Jane Wallace” on FX.
In Atlanta, Billy was a founding member of Turner’s “Black Professionals at Turner”, an affinity group designed to mentor employees, strengthen company networking, outreach to local students and provide Turner with a sounding board on the diversity initiatives with its company and content.
As a proud member of NAMIC, Billy’s 2006 panel discussion on the lack of diversity, The Only One in The Room”, in corporate media executives and what to expect when climbing the corporate ladder is still the most-attended panel in the Conference’s history.
Billy is a true ambassador for the industry as it relates to inclusion, outreach and diversity. A frequent speaker at colleges across the country, including Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Amherst College, and frequently at his alma mata, Ithaca College. Billy speaks to students about the frank realities of working in the corporate world, with honesty, candor and humor. He speaks truthfully and passionately about the rewards and pitfalls of life in the business world. Students react with appreciation and sincerity with Billy’s honest appraisal and insight on what lies in their future.
